From Dr. Carol Ritter: UNEDITED VIA SMS/TXT: Doing transport today. On my way to Batciella Hospital in the Dominican Republic (DR), where we found 4 open beds. Cadet, age 26, with a ruptured liver. Jean Francois with sepsis after right leg amputation. Madet with sepsis and probable PE. Roger, who I operated on three days ago with multiple crush injuries and probably in renal failure. Their stoicism is unimaginable. Family members are not allowed through the check points but I have sneaked in a brother of one and a cousin of another. This is the longest two hour drive of their lives, hopefully to make their lives longer with a brighter future.
